Since forever I have loved to sing. Aretha Franklin is my favorite female singer of all time. I attended choir in high school for a short time and taught myself to read and play music on the piano. Later on I learned to incorporate music software and produced my own songs. I am now teaching myself to play guitar. I am passionate for Jesus and believe that God alone is right.

Vanity

Here is a poem, an except from my book “God Speaks,” that I wrote some time ago concerning VANITY (pride, narcissism, self-importance, conceit, arrogance, bigheadedness) :

Vanity is as vanity does

She struts, she sashays, a cut above

All her contemporaries, some ere who may

Desire to copy her vainglorious ways

And what is vain as vain can be

A mirror image, a reflection is she

Who sees herself as only she can see

And bolsters herself into obscurity

One may do as the other has done

And esteem himself the only one

Of any consequence proven to be

Utmost in exception and desirability

Until such time as may arise

A vision, a revelation, a portal inside

That unveils the true hidden nature of man

Which denies all claims as only truth can

And lays bare the substance of all human flesh

The layers of character from birth until death

Till naked and open the one thing that’s plain

Is that vain is vanity and vanity is vain.

Spread the Word

One day, out of the blue, my mind started thinking in terms of rhyming.  I would read and get inspired by a certain verse or word and I would start turning over rhymes in my mind.  Feeling that I was on to something, I began writing them down.  That led to writing poems, I put a few on Poetry.com, a while back.  When I turned to producing songs, I took the poetry and put music to it in my mind.  When I sit down to try to produce the song, the complete rendition is already set in my  mind, so when I find the means, it only takes a moment to produce it.    Since then, I have moved on to making videos (it’s free), I just published my latest on YouTube.  “Spread the Word.”  Below I have listed the poem it was created from.

SPREAD THE WORD

I speak these words by inspiration

Given to me by revelation

That by publication, education

Taken to a dying nation

May result in the perpetuation

Of the common salvation

From creation to the population

I got to Spread the Word

So with dedication to the situation

I maintain the observation

This persuasion of predestination

Is aggravation, and invasion

Into my direction

With no escape from intimidation to manifestation

by motivation of the preparation of this

Of this dissertation, illiteration, and illustration

I got to Spread the Word

Paper and Glue

I love working with paper and glue, aka paper machete.  This time I went bigger.  Using an old wicker basket as a mold, I taped on plastic, slathered it with vasoline, and then layered it with cut up paper bags and glue.  After many, many layers, I let it dry and painted it with a faux leather-look paint kit.  I call it a trough.  Not sure what I’ll use it for, but I like it.

Spring Bazaar 2016

Our 2016 Spring Bazaar was a smashing success.  Vendors, comprised of family and friends, made an impressive display of entrepreneurship.  We are in our 8th year, conducted free of charge on our home turf, the Bazaar gives it’s participants a chance to display their wares and/or support others.  Neighbors and passersby have been very supportive also.  Here’s a bit of a peek.  Oh, and we were all thankful to God, because although rain was forecast, it held off until the end of the Bazaar.

On Gardening

I have been gardening in my present location or about 5 seasons, and each year I add a little more.  I love using unconventional items in my garden, I think it’s so cool (old tires, tiles, plastic bottles, etc.)  Here are some pictures of my garden.  Just today I went out and lo and behold a caterpillar tent moved in, positioning itself on a low-lying tree close to my vegetables.  I prayed to God about it.  Everything in nature was created by God, so I have no doubt caterpillars, being amongst his creatures, are within his power.  Maybe I’ve been too attentive to my garden, or maybe it’s just a fact of nature, whatever, I prayed to not let them destroy my garden.  Although I didn’t want to, I also went online to see what I could use to control (or even destroy) them, before they destroyed my garden.  God help my little garden.

Summer is Family Fun

LOV

Our Family Fun fellowship group is gearing up for this summer’s events.  We have a bazaar, our regular Lily of the Valley Family Fun event, a family reunion, and a barbecue.   It is so important for family to continue to come together, especially for the children.  We are reaching out to long-lost family members to make them aware that they have many, many relations they may not know about.  We are looking back to our ancestors; who were they,  who are their children, their children’s children?  It is my hope and prayer that we may join in fellowship with many newly discovered family members this summer.

Summer is Open-Air Fair Season

I am looking forward to attending a few Open-Air Fair events this summer.  I love to get out and mingle with people, especially other crafters, it’s great fun.  To that end, I need to prepare something myself to show.  I have a few ideas I am working on.  One is an inexpensive item I’ve done before: Paperclip Earrings.  I have some large and some small colorful, plastic-coated clips to work with.  I pray to God that all the crafters out this year are safe and successful.  Who doesn’t like homemade?  See pics below.

I am also working on bags, totes, etc.  My latest offering is a crocheted bag using a specialty yarn.  I’ve had the crocheted panels around for a while, but just decided to crochet them together into a shoulder bag using waxed cording.  I crocheted the entire bag around as one piece, including the strap.   It is different and the pocketed lining makes it very usable.

Making Music Videos

I am so excited about my latest project.   As I may have mentioned before, I am a gospel songwriter/singer.  I have so many songs recorded it’s not funny.  Being unconventional in my approach, and in my sound, I opted to record in my home studio.  I don’t have money for professional recording studios, which can cost hundreds of dollars and require spending a lot of time to, in  and from the studio,  I decided that by the grace of God, I would produce my music myself.  Now, that sounds simple, maybe, but if you have something to say,  getting someone to hear it is another hill to climb.

There are so many opportunities with social media, this has opened doors that hitherto were closed.  And, now, I have discovered music videos.  Not of me singing, but by using pictures, themes, typed words, other audio-video media (I am using Cyberlink Power Director that came with my computer), you can produce any type of video you want.  I am having so much fun.

If you get a chance, drop by Youtube and take a look, or listen, or both.  You can click on the following link to take you there.

More Calendar Art by Faith

Calendars are great things.  They have beautiful pictures, worthy of saving and using in many artful projects.  Lately, I have endeavored to do a large collage.  With two medium large canvasses that I secured together, I used a great calendar of large flowers with inspirational words to produce a 3-D like floral effect by enhancing each flower with artificial flowers, ribbons, glitter, ink, fabric, clear wrap, even shoestrings.   I think it came out very well.

Now I haven’t done a collage for more than 20 years.  I had no idea where to start.  I was stumped many times.  But, where faith always comes in to play: I called upon the Holy Spirit for direction.   It never fails when I called upon the Lord, he always presents ideas as to where to go next with any project.  Whether it is cooking, cleaning, art, computers, my music, finding a place to live, anything,  I find that if you have faith to believe, the Spirit of the Lord will always show you what to do.   Now, what to do with it?

Check out my collage.
